Black, grey and shades of earthy brown decorate the suave interiors of three 60 square metre modern apartments. The tonal combination paints decor schemes that are smoothly understated, whilst exuding utmost confidence and style. We’ll take a tour of a contemporary apartment that’s framed with decorative black and white boiserie for a high contrast neoclassical aesthetic. We’ll explore the small separate spaces of a home with chic space conscious solutions, and a sharp little bathroom composition. Finally, we’ll round things off with an impressive apartment design that’s expertly conquered the quirky shape of its angular architecture and some less than ideal window placements.
Our first 60 square metre apartment is located in Chisinau, Moldova. A cushiony grey modular sofa and silver grey rug mark out a lounge area in the home’s open plan living space.
A rustic coffee table adds a wonderfully textured warm accent to the middle of the lounge, which ties in with a wood tone breakfast bar that stands behind the couch.
Timber planks make an attractive feature over the TV wall, where a floating media unit adds a crisp white accent. Mature indoor plants complement the natural wood grain elements, and add height to the room.
A modern plant stand makes a chic addition to a wall of decorative boiserie beside the kitchen diner.
Gold elements add beautiful lustre to a black linear suspension light over the dining peninsula, which doubles as a bar.
Boiserie gets a high contrast two-tone treatment inside of the master bedroom. Black bedroom pendant lights meld moodily with the darker side of the room. The black designer table lamp over in the lighter half is the Atollo lamp. Slatted wardrobe doors leak ambient light into the black and white bedroom.
Heavy grey drapes frame the bedroom window, where sheer white drapes provide privacy.
Luxurious marble tiles make up a black and white bathroom scheme.
Apartment floor plan.
This 60 square metre floor plan in Lviv, Ukraine is split into separate compact living spaces. A small sofa fits snugly into the neat lounge room, where panel molding frames out the wall. A large piece of wall art plays with the room’s proportions.
A round coffee table adds a lighter shade of grey, and the area rug goes lighter still to create tonal layers.
On the opposite side of the room, a black floating TV stand contrasts with pale paintwork.
A black glass vase adds a small decorative element to the minimalist arrangement.
The remainder of the small lounge area is dedicated to a vanity table and chair, which becomes an independent space behind a bookcase room divider. An illuminated vanity mirror brightens the nook.
A wine storage case makes a slick backlit design feature in the kitchen, surrounded by chocolatey wood tone.
A modern dining chandelier throws black arcs against a ribbed gypsum wall panel.
The extendable dining table provides a flexible solution for the small space.
Warm grey and wood grain cabinets make up a smooth one wall kitchen arrangement, which is sliced through with a glossy black marble backsplash.
In the bedroom, a grey platform bed adds weight to a predominantly creamy white scheme. A black bedroom pendant light makes a slender addition to one side of the platform bed, whilst a floating dressing table occupies the other.
The glass closet helps the room feel larger, and its light boxes supply extra lighting.
Track lights and recessed perimeter lighting is used throughout the home.
Custom closets have been made fit floor-to-ceiling in the hallway of the apartment.
A small entryway seat pulls up at the hallway shelf. Coat hooks have been applied to a smart inlay of rich wood slats.
The sharp rectangular bathroom sink complements a linear bathroom vanity design with a floating storage volume underneath. An illuminated vanity mirror burns against wood effect tile.
A built-in bathtub and square toilet continue the sharp aesthetic.
In the shower room, a contemporary bathroom vanity light spotlights the same sink and toilet models.
Black bathroom fixtures contrast deeply with a grey stone wet zone.
Floor plan.
Our final 60 square metre home features an open and airy layout with a glass wall bedroom design. The transparent feature really expands the feel of the place, and allows shared daylight from tucked away windows.
The unusual shape of the home has been harnessed as a design positive rather than a hindrance. To combat the grey living room’s angular form, rounded corners ensure that furniture flows easily into the narrowing space.
A TV wall unit floats as one self-contained piece. A deep frame surrounds a wooden TV mounting panel, and cradles a modern media unit.
The TV ‘cube’ wraps around the corner to become one wall of the L-shaped kitchen design.
Red kitchen bar stools line up along an island to shake up the neutral decor palette.
A black swing arm wall lamp shines double lamp heads over the couch.
Made-to-measure wardrobes line the hallway with oodles of storage space.
In the master bedroom, a platformed floor makes a unique floating feature of the bed.
Chocolate milk curtains sweeten the grey bedroom scheme, and make a perfect tonal match with wood effect wardrobes.
A freestanding TV mount addresses the lack of TV wall space in the glass wall bedroom.
At the end of the hallway, mirrored closet doors create the illusion of added length and natural light.
In the bathroom, a frameless shower screen has been cut to fit around a unique bathroom sink, creating a slick custom finish.
