Located in Kyiv, Ukraine, this private apartment was developed for a single young woman in her mid-thirties who loves to entertain. A cool grey lounge creates a moment of calm at the centre of an open plan living space, held together by a light area rug. The peaceful arrangement is flanked on one side by saturated blue rooms, and loud orange drapes on the other.
The heavy orange drapes frame black framed windows and black window blinds. A light blue vertical radiator creates a colour break between the panes. The mirrored finish of a rectangle coffee table reflects the area rug design, almost as if the table weren’t there at all.
With such intense colour in the room, lightweight modern outdoor chairs are used to delicately round out the lounge. A blue accent cushion ties one of the Acapulco chairs in with the room’s blue painted woodwork.

A plant stand brings greenery to the dining area, which is arranged for entertaining up to six people. Oversized lighting and wall art create clear zoning over the black table and a mixed arrangement of dark chairs.

Baby blue kitchen cabinets and a matching blue tile countertop interact with a white mosaic backsplash and floor. A single ruby red cabinet provides a pop of contrast.
At the start of the project, the homeowner and design team were moving towards a simple Scandi style interior, but bright colours were added along the way.

Our second tour is a fresh, geometric filled interior. A geo rug combines blue and orange elements on the floor, whilst colour blocked walls and wainscotting brighten the vertical plane.
More colour blocking arrives upon the TV wall, where an orange painted section becomes an interesting mount for modern art.
Retro style wooden furniture adds to the quirky nature of the room. A stack of coffee table books and a small glass vase top mismatched tables.
A dining bench slots into the tight space between the table and the side of the staircase. Shelving utilises a narrow nook under the stairs.
A botanical design makes a big feature out of a short wall around the dining area. Geometric floor tiles vie for attention in the adjacent kitchen, along with a brave orange kitchen run and aqua wall cabinets.
