Smart Homes: Are We There Yet?

Update:

We are certainly there now. (Case in point: 50 Insanely Useful Smart Home Products You Can Buy Right Now) Those who have played Xbox Kinect will have experienced a little of what it's like to live in a digitally submersive world like that featured in the movie Minority Report, where a wave of your controller-free hand has cause and effect on a screen in front of you. Well, this prototype by Openarch shows us a Smart Home where screens are no longer required, a home where the walls and floors become viewing stations at which to play games, video chat, surf the internet and use a multitude of handy household app style functions: It's heartening to note that they have produced a real functioning prototype and it is not one of those futuristic concept videos that we usually see floating about.

Openarch isn't the only company that is bringing in new ways in which we interact with data and objects. Check out this video from Microsoft's Research Labs that shows their vision of how we might interact with objects digitally in the future. https://youtu.be/oGa1Q7NvsI0 But this is just the beginning in a long line of enhancements imagined for our future, similar more integratable concepts are coming to the market, such as the Samsung Smart Window: https://youtu.be/m5rlTrdF5Cs With fascinating additions like these, life and education take on exciting new dimension, and loved ones, friends and colleagues are connected ways never before possible. It's seems we have a lot to look forward to!... https://youtu.be/jZkHpNnXLB0
