The bright new eBay offices in Turkey span a 2.000 m² floor area on a single level of the O.S.O Mimarlik's Office Building in Istanbul Atasehir, following the trend of 'open offices' we have seen so much of lately. This new global trend of borderless working has led to a layout of four flow-through areas including an entrance hall & social facilities, the main open office space, meeting places, and technical & service areas.
The initial entrance hall evokes an inviting atmosphere with natural woodwork on floors and ceilings as well as the reception desk itself, placed under a wooden pergola. The pergola encourages visitors to approach the allocated area whilst allowing the desk to remain visually connected with the social area.
A stylized world map in this entrance area picks out the offices Turkish location.
Besides the meeting rooms, only the social area is accessible-and visible-to visitors, being situated behind the welcome hall; this area includes a comfy cafe-bar, a library, access to on-line music, television, movie projection and even PlayStation games. A outside terrace is also connected with the social place, which can be used as a smoking area and staff interaction place.
With incredibly high ceilings in the main open plan working area acoustical problems were overcome with sound absorbing panels and an irregular order of lighting instruments.
Beneath a chaotic and colorful designed ceiling, a circle carpet pattern decorates the floor, which is a familiar sight from other branch offices where it is used to reflect the company's corporate identity.
