Many parents are faced with the problem of furnishing small-scaled kids' rooms. The littlest members of the family are usually given the littlest rooms but still have a whole host of toys and games to store away, as well as needing allocated areas for homework or crafts, depending on their age, and then there comes the inevitable sleepovers that present a whole new set of space issues! These kids' bedroom designs, by Barcelona based Sergi Mengot, manage to create the illusion of a spacious sleep and play space, whilst achieving practical solutions for a growing child with growing needs.
It is fascinating to watch the workflow of a designer. In this sketch, see how Sergi drafts the layout for a room which he renders out below.
Mengot makes great use of the wall height in these spaces, utilizing vertical proportions for shelving and personalization, whilst lower levels incorporate innovative dual use beds with trundles and further storage opportunities.
Although these are very small spaces, there is still a brave use of color, with rosy reds, zesty orange and lime green; the key here is to mix strong colors with lighter shades such as a neutral taupe or fresh white.
Another great way of visually expanding a small space is to paint a striped wall, horizontal stripes will widen a room and vertical stripes will make a wall appear taller.
